I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Starbucks in Mar 2012
Interview
I applied online for a Barista position through Starbucks.com. After following up a few days later, (going into the store to ask for the manager) the location I applied at said they were in the middle of transferring managers, so they were unsure if they were hiring. However, another week later, I got a call from the new manager of the location. She did a brief phone interview: asking why I wanted to work at Starbucks, my previous work experience, and my availability. Then she went over the basics of the dress code and asked when I could come in for an interview. I would recommend preparing yourself ahead of time for possible interview questions in case they call. It really does put you on the spot.
I arrived at my interview about five minutes early and was offered a drink on the house while I waited for the manager. After waiting ten minutes, the manager came out and introduced herself before starting some small talk. (I always recommend standing up and shaking their hand to greet the manager when they come up to you) She told me it was going to be a short interview consisting of about five questions, which were situation questions that went by incredibly fast and were relatively easy. The rest of the time was me asking her questions about the company, some of the basic rules/guidelines, and other conversational topics about Starbucks.
At the end, I asked when I should expect to hear back from her or if I should call and she told me I was hired right on the spot. She gave the basic items that I'll need on my first day and told me she'd call in a week with my schedule. I'd say the entire interview lasted about twenty minutes altogether.
Interview questions [3]
Question 1
Explain what you would do if there was a coworker who was treating you unfairly.
First interview went well, just the basic behavioral questions that should be answered using the STAR method. Second interview was less questions but with the district manager. Still waiting to hear back (if they reach out at all).
Interview questions [5]
Question 1
Tell me about a time where you had to navigate a situation where the supervisor wasn’t available.
Received an email asking to schedule an interview for the following week. The interview took place in the store itself, and took about 15 minutes. The questions were pretty average.
Basically a short chat about my availability, my interest in the job, why I want to work there, how familiar I am with coffee and what my past experiences in hospitality were.
