In July 2013, I was called for an interview after a few weeks of having put in my application. I also had college orientation happening around the same time, but the ETL of HR was very accommodating and was able to squeeze me in at the end of the week. Targets does a first and second interview, and usually you'll know fairly quickly if you got the second after the first. My first interview was with the lady that would be my team lead if I was hired. She asked some scenario-based questions about customer service and working with a team, etc. (i.e. tell me about a time..., or what would you do if...). If the first interview goes well and they like you, they'll put you through for a second. Mine happened to be the same day, and she had me wait for a few minutes until the HR manager was ready. The second interview was very similar. I was given a conditional job offer- four years ago you had to pass a drug test to for you to be officially hired (although I hear from others that they stopped doing this). A year after being hired, I did transfer stores, to a different department (but one that I was cross-trained for). The new store did a quick phone interview, before accepting me; but that was basically just to make sure I was a good fit. I am friends with my team lead now and will give you a couple of tips- things she looks for in an interview. Particularly in my store, they've been looking for people with experience, mainly because we keep getting burned by people with zero experience. Give detailed answers, and have knowledge about and be comfortable with promoting our store brands and benefits we offer like the RedCard, Cartwheel/Target apps, etc. Come with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and an open mind.
