      Business Analyst Interview

      11 Aug 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Minneapolis, MN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Target (Minneapolis, MN) in July 2010

      Interview

Was given referral after working in finance(looking at Target because I am a little disheartened after the last couple of years), wanted to get out. Phone interview, she asked very generic questions, had no idea about finance and had to explain what a hedge fund was. Asked what I did well, something I wanted to improve on. Nothing really stood out because it was clear she was not a smart person and I had to walk her through things. I'm currently a head analyst at a firm where I have done $15 mm deals and raised over funds over $180 mm. I can analyze the heck out of large numbers and have saved a lot of money for our company over the last 5 years. I also handle talking to our clients and examining and resolving conflicts for ultra affluent clients. Lastly, I hire interns and have had some go on to get very good jobs at other firms and ours. BTW I am only 26, so I thought I would be an easy lock to get past the phone interview. My resume could be built to suit anyone of the jobs because I have not been locked into one position. Anyway, she told me she would take my resume to various parts of the company. Never heard back for a week and then she emailed me to say to check my job status...what a way to say, "no longer under consideration". Said they couldn't place me. Whatever that means considering that they still hire people that are dumber than rocks from the local Uni's. I guess Target wants clones who are cookie cutter cut outs of one another that can Google STAR questions and respond with generic answers that they could never verify. ( I could say I saved baby seals and helped deliver premature babies in Africa) Still a week later I am a little confused, I have 3 other people that can refer me but breaking through their dumb interview people is really annoying.

      Interview

It consisted of a phone screen with HR followed by 30-minute virtual interviews with three others. Overall, the process was pretty smooth. I was surprised there was no in-person portion.
