I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at The Home Depot
Interview
Awkward. I applied to a potion that was not even available. The manager said that was standard procedure to get applicants in the door and then start them at minimum wage as a cashier or stocker part time for 6 months.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Very basic generic questions not related to the job.
Show genuine interest in home improvement / DIY or willingness to learn about it.
Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) when answering behavioral questions.
Be ready to talk about your availability (weekends, holidays) and how you function in fast-paced or changing retail environments.
Even if the role is entry level, basic awareness of tools, departments, or how you would help a customer can set you apart.
Prepare questions for your interviewer: e.g., “What does success look like in this role after six months?” or “How does the team handle busy periods like spring/summer?”
Dress business-casual (retail appropriate): nice pants/khakis + collared shirt/blouse.

Interview
Met with HR manager and interview was pretty simple. Just went over experience and customer service questions. They usually want someone with experience for the job but it’s a good place to start as well if you’re looking to get into the industry. Training videos are provided but they are customer service heavy.

Interview
It was great and satisfying but the didn’t ask any questions about my technical skills. I thought that this could be the pivot point in the interview. I think this position requires more sales skills than creative skills.
