I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Zillow in Mar 2021
Interview
Worked with a great recruiter. Had a phone screen, HM call and final round (5 calls) in 2 weeks. The recruiter was very fast and responsive.
Throughout the process, the recruiter gave me very positive feedback telling me there were no concerns, the HM thought I was it, and even asked me whether I was concerned about being down leveled. 2 weeks after my final round, the recruiter called to let me know that the hiring team decided to not move forward with any candidate. Although each interviewer rated me as a hire and the team agreed I could do the job as described, they did not want to proceed with an offer. Didn’t make sense to me or the recruiter as the team was not able to provide specifics about my weaknesses or what they were looking for instead.
I had a very positive view of Zillow from the consumer POV so was quite excited to meet some of the team who built these products. However, this negative and confusing interview experience left me feeling like I wasted my time because (at least some) management within the company does not know what they want. Two key parts of leadership and growing a team are to know what you want in a hire and to interview efficiently.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and I apologize your interview experience didn’t meet either of our expectations. Our hiring process is dynamic and role needs can change quickly and unexpectedly. I sincerely appreciate you taking the 4+ weeks to interview with us, and while things can change, it’s important that we’re relaying the changes the best we can in real-time. I welcome any additional feedback you have so please feel free to email me directly at annie@zillowgroup.com. -Annie Rihn, VP of Recruiting
