About The Position
This position has been established to support an ARC Linkage Project and is funded through this ARC scheme. This role involves undertaking innovative research activities aligned with the University’s research strategy, both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams. Through their expertise, the Research Fellow will make a significant contribution to their field of specialisation and build a growing national reputation for advancing knowledge and research impact within their discipline.
The Research Fellow will actively foster productive research collaborations across RMIT and with local, national and industry partners, embedding their expertise within the broader research community. The role also includes contributing to research funding success, publishing high-quality research outputs, and enhancing the School’s research profile through impactful and outcomes-focused research activities.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have:
1. Extensive experience in bacteriology, molecular pathogenesis and molecular biology, with demonstrated expertise in synthetic biology, including construction and evaluation of bacterial expression cassettes for heterologous gene expression and bacterial genome editing.
2. Experience in animal ethics applications and in vivo animal experimentation, with demonstrated willingness and ability to work with poultry models and travel interstate for animal trials.
3. Demonstrated ability to define, investigate and solve complex problems in laboratory practice and data analysis using diverse established and experimental procedures.
4. Demonstrated ability to meet project milestones and reporting deadlines.
5. Strong written and oral communication skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.
7. An emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs, evidenced by publications, competitive research funding, research impacts and industry links.
8. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork, multidisciplinary collaboration and institutional contributions.

About the College/School
The STEM College incorporates the fields of sciences, engineering, computing technologies, and health and medical sciences. It comprises four Schools that deliver a broad range of programs in science, engineering, health and technology at apprenticeship, certificate, bachelor, master and PhD levels. Many programs articulate between vocational and higher education, creating pathways for further study. The College has a vibrant research community that attracts funding from a range of government and industry sources.
The School of Science encompasses the Departments of Applied Chemistry and Environmental Science, Biology, Food Technology and Nutrition, Mathematics and Geospatial Sciences, and Physics. The School educates the scientists and technologists of the future and undertakes innovative discovery and applied research that addresses major global, societal and technological challenges. It partners extensively with industry, business, government and international collaborators. The School has staff, students and facilities on both the City and Bundoora campuses, with over 260 staff and around 3,500 domestic and international students.
