## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented ICT Systems Test Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our technology systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing comprehensive test strategies, identifying defects, and working collaboratively with development and infrastructure teams to deliver robust, high-quality solutions. This role suits a methodical and analytical professional with a strong technical background in software and systems testing, a commitment to quality assurance best practices, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment.
## Key Responsibilities
- Specify, develop, and execute detailed test plans, test scripts, and test cases to validate the behaviour, functionality, and integrity of ICT systems across multiple platforms and environments.
- Identify, diagnose, and document functionality errors and faults in systems and programming code within established testing protocols, quality standards, and compliance guidelines to ensure systems perform to specification.
- Design and conduct regression, integration, performance, and user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure new and updated systems meet defined requirements and business needs.
- Utilise automated test software and frameworks to streamline testing processes, improve test coverage, and increase efficiency across the software development lifecycle.
- Produce clear and comprehensive defect reports, test summary reports, and related quality assurance documentation, ensuring traceability from requirements through to test outcomes.
- Perform systems architecture reviews and assessments, evaluating current and future hardware and software configurations, and contributing recommendations to inform strategic technical direction.
- Collaborate closely with software developers, business analysts, and project managers to clarify requirements, resolve defects, and support timely delivery of system releases.
- Create, review, and maintain technical documentation including procedural guides, operational manuals, instructional materials, technical specifications, and maintenance inventory records.
- Analyse test results and defect trends to identify recurring issues, recommend process improvements, and support continuous quality improvement initiatives across the organisation.
- Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, contributing a quality assurance perspective throughout the development cycle.
- Assess risks associated with system changes and releases, providing input into risk mitigation strategies and supporting informed decision-making across project and operational teams.
- Support the evaluation, selection, and implementation of testing tools, methodologies, and frameworks to ensure the organisation's testing capabilities remain current and effective.
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in ICT systems testing, quality assurance, or a closely related technical role, with a solid understanding of the software development and systems engineering lifecycle.
- Proficiency in writing and executing test plans, test cases, and test scripts across functional, non-functional, and regression testing scenarios.
- Hands-on experience with test automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, TestNG, or comparable technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex system faults and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience producing high-quality technical documentation, including test reports, defect logs, operational guides, and system specifications.
- Familiarity with agile and DevOps methodologies and the ability to integrate quality assurance activities into iterative development workflows.
- Solid understanding of systems architecture, network infrastructure, and software integration concepts relevant to enterprise ICT environments.
- Competency with defect tracking and test management tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, Zephyr, or similar platforms.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills, with a strong commitment to delivering quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
## Preferred Qualifications
- ISTQB certification (Foundation Level or above) or an equivalent recognised qualification in software testing or quality assurance.
- Experience working in regulated industries or environments with strict compliance, security, or governance requirements, such as government, finance, or healthcare.
- Exposure to performance and load testing tools such as Apache JMeter, LoadRunner, or Gatling.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity testing principles, including vulnerability assessments and secure coding practices.
- Experience with cloud-based environments and platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, and an understanding of how they impact testing strategies.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and associated tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Bamboo.
- A postgraduate qualification or additional certifications in project management, IT governance, or related fields, such as ITIL or PRINCE2, would be highly regarded.
