  2. "Good to get some work experience, but not good as a career."

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    -The good pay for night shift and working overtime, especially for a student.
    -good way to gain some work experience as a part time or Christmas casual job
    -the process of managing and swapping shifts are very professional as you have to go through a central office which organises it
    -facilities in the parcel sorting facility are quite good, with a place for staff members to chill and play ping pong

    Cons

    -working night shifts can be very tiring and against your usual body clock, make sure you stay healthy and maintain a good exercise regime
    -work can be monotonous and repetitive, as you are just sorting out parcels and lifting and pushing stuff
    -This is an excellent job to get some work experience during the holidays when you're in high school or Uni, but it is not good as a long-term career as the job is quite laborious and monotonous working in a factory.

    I have been working at Australia Post full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - You will meet great people from a wide range of backgrounds
    - If you work hard and well, you can advance your career very quickly
    - Once you pass the probation period (3 months) you can immediately start applying to and interviewing for different positions. Seniority is a secondary consideration compared to how good you are at the job.
    - There are a lot of different types of roles available within the company, and moving between departments is easy
    - The company doesn't always hit the mark with employee engagement, but it's heart is in the right place

    Cons

    - The size and scope of the company makes the service levels very inconsistent depending on where in the country the customer is
    - The company does not set realistic expectations for it's customers and you bear the brunt of this as a front line employee
    - You WILL get yelled at a LOT. This is part and parcel of call centre work, but can be brutal if you aren't accustomed to it.

    Advice to Management

    - Restructure is needed to give staff more responsibility and opportunity to case manage where required

    I worked at Australia Post full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Weekly coaching on KPI improvement;
    weekly team meeting;
    opportunities for growth within company

    Cons

    Hot-desking means having no personal space, seats change;
    not enough floor support;
    some managers are not helpful; if your own manager is unavailable

    Advice to Management

    Some team managers dont want to help out; or pretend to be busy. I only noticed one or two managers in the whole center who ended up managing many other teams hence a lot of pressure is on them; senior manager should take note of this and manage better.
    Some employees are either intimidated and not treated well by their TM or their TM hasnt been helpful; hence they walked up to another manager who has always been helpful.
