Challenging work environment with detrimental (toxic) organizational culture

Pros

Colleagues at the same seniority level or lower, will be nice. Completely remote working.

Cons

Unpaid Overtime: Leadership may threaten job security for those refusing unpaid overtime and undermine employees’ work ethic and ambition. Additional work should be voluntary, but recognition or compensation for such efforts is not provided. Work Environment: The budget for tools, such as licenses, is limited, often using free or shared accounts like Zoom. Quality issues from overseas hires (e.g., India) can impact task performance. Work cultures in other countries hired from (e.g., Indonesia, Japan) often involve excessive overtime, perpetuating the unhealthy work environment. Career Progression: Roles are poorly defined, and career advancement is rarely realized. Promotions are nonexistent, and workloads consistently increase without corresponding increases in job titles or compensation. Low Salary: Salaries are unethically below market average and uncompetitive considering the expectation of after-hours work. JDs may expand, but salary adjustments are unlikely. Employees are advised to compare their salaries with market averages, though raise requests are often not met. Leadership Team: Many managers engage in micromanagement, including scrutinizing emails and questioning work locations. Conversely, some managers are ineffective, providing more talk than actionable results. Company Culture: The company’s purported supportive culture falters when employees set boundaries and seek work-life balance. There are no significant team-building activities or cultural aspects beyond work, resulting in a less engaging environment. Resignation: Upon resignation, employees are offered immediate termination instead of serving their full notice period, which can make the resignation appear as a dismissal. LT perceives resignations as personal affronts and keeps dismissals unannounced to the broader company until the employee’s final week or day. Recognition is minimal, usually restricted to a reused template for farewell messages.

Change of culture needed

Pros

Remote working, surrounded by peers who are very good at what they do

Cons

- Toxic culture where you are constantly expected to work outside of business hours and lack of support due to everyone having their hands full and having to wear multiple hats - The company struggles to hire locally, so they are focusing on international recruit for cheap labour. Unfortunately this mean culture suffers. - LT take people leaving personally, so they tend to burn bridges and spread negative narrative to those left behind

Thank you for your honest feedback; we are sorry to hear that you did not feel appropriately supported during your time working at Cadmus. It is true that because we are a start-up, everyone does have their hands full and many of our people wear many hats. This is quite normal for our stage of company, but that doesn’t make it easy. This is why we focus on hiring talented people who are also kind and supportive: we want to foster an environment where people take care of one another, because working at an early-stage start-up is hard work. It sounds like we may have failed in providing you the level of support you needed to succeed here, and for that, we are sorry. Regarding your comment about hiring internationally: as a business we made a conscious decision to hire the best talent no matter where they were located; this has greatly diversified our team and brought fresh perspectives into every part of the business. We believe this expansion has positively impacted our company culture, and we look forward to welcoming more diverse candidates into our team as we grow. Kind regards, Team Cadmus

Toxic Positivity, Micro-Management, Burn Out

Pros

-Fully remote work -Macbook and Apple devices

Cons

-Leadership Team (LT) has a culture of 'toxic positivity' - team members are unable to raise issues or question approaches. Even providing alternative points of view is frowned upon and you may find yourself publicly humiliated if you attempt this. -There is a culture of bullying. The CEO will often decide on one particular person to target for a number of weeks - ignoring them in meetings, and b****ing about them to other team members who are too scared to stick up for their peers. The other LT members are complicit in this. -Cadmus prides itself on micro-managing employees. Why hire staff when you don't trust their abilities? Trust them to do their jobs or don't hire them at all. It is clear that there is a lack of managerial experience in the LT. -If you don't want to work outside of business hours, don't work at Cadmus. Everyone expects some overtime in a start up, but overtime is the norm here - to the extent where you should expect to work 12 hour days multiple days a week. -Do not expect to be compensated for your overtime. Career progression is also non-existent. Will Cadmus will observe the new 'right to disconnect'? - Likely not. Be very mindful of the reviews on this page if you decide to work at Cadmus.
