Not A Safe Environment for People of Color

Pros

They have a lot of processes in place to get things done. This was something I was initially excited about, as I came from a place that was constantly trying to pin down what steps needed to be taken to accomplish certain tasks. But the flip side of this, is that management can be fairly rigid. And though there are conversations (constantly...which kudos) about improvements - often times the ground work for improvements/changes are eventually cut down (without being given a fair chance) and the process reverts back to what wasn't working.

Cons

My biggest problem with ChurnZero is that it’s a racist establishment. When the term systematic racism is used and you talk about its effects, this place is its result. I was one of a handful of Black people who worked there. In a company that nearly doubled in size during my time (over 150+), I could count the number of Black people on my two hands. I'm not a stranger to often being the only Black person in the room, but it was the first time that I felt my Blackness constantly resulted in uncomfortable conversations or implications about my ability as a person. And they claim that are hoping to have better diversity/fix their diversity issues but outside of lip service there were no steps taken to follow through. There were many reasons I left but the biggest one was the lack of safety I felt as a person of color - from remarks frequently made by peers about people of color to decisions made my supervisors that negatively impacted those with any differences (including accessibility). If purpose and passion is part of why you come into work everyday, then I would not recommend ChurnZero. Compassion is not at the forefront of the work this company does, their goal it to make money for themselves and their customers - which takes a certain type of mindset and personality but it not a setting for everyone. They are a successful company, but their success is at the expense of their employees. It's not people first here. And part of their employee mission is to treat each other like adults/to hirer adults, however this translates to figure it out yourself. Agency is important in any job you do, certainly but I work with other's because I want to be part of a team. Silos are common among departments but here there were many silos within singular departments. I do believe that many who work here are intelligent people, but it’s akin to the brilliant kids in high school - smart but vapid, and not really willing to play with others who do not look like them or think like them.

We have worked to make ChurnZero a great place to launch and continue your career. Other reviews tell that story. But this wasn't your story and if it didn’t work for you, there are likely others that share your concerns. This has my attention, and I am going to work hard on making this a great place to work for everyone, including people of color. I welcome the chance to talk to you more thoroughly on the topic. You have my email and you’ll have my ear on the topic. You Mon Tsang Co-Founder and CEO

Pros

- True unlimited PTO for non-managers - Most managers do not micro-manage unless you are under-performing - Most people in the company are intelligent and are pleasant to work with - Technology is not that difficult to understand if you have any background in SaaS already - Health benefits and HSA are very solid, 401k is almost on par with other similar companies

Cons

- Most managers are first-time managers that receive little to no training or assistance on their journey; very apparent when individual contributors are given promotions and do not translate well to management - Pay becomes a bigger joke every single day, we are so far off the market average for most positions...upper management uses the Radford reports as their defense but we all know that every competitor pays significantly more - Every week we are losing more and more people to our largest competitor, execs are trying to hide it by hiring a ton of people to make the employee churn metric not look so bad - Equity is a complete joke, not only do you have to wait an entire year to even begin vesting at that point it would take years of vesting to see maybe a couple thousand dollars...don't be fooled by this because they are very vague on the details

Pros

- Very robust product - does many things and integrates well - Kind and committed teammates - Effective and well-defined CS processes - Good employee benefits - Amazing learning Academy, enablement, and support teams - A true remote culture

Cons

- CS team is overworked to point of burnout (and made worse by a recent company RIF) - Mistrustful culture, lacks transparency, people are afraid - Adversarial relationship between Sales / CS / Product - Pay is low for the industry (surprisingly, as their CSMs are truly best in class) - Extreme sales pressure on CS team - Unfair policies around churn responsibility (your metrics (and var comp) gets dinged for churn outside CSM control, ex: if a customer gets acquired) - Product usability is not great, customers complain about this frequently. It is overly complex, challenging to implement, hard to learn, and not easy to use ongoing,)
