Pros

No cold calling, appointments are set for you. Good training program for those new to sales. The design and organizing aspects are enjoyable. Some clients are very nice and appreciative of your work.

Cons

Very low commissions. Inconsistent information from different managers. You do not "own" your clients - if they call back for additional work, they just give the lead to someone else without even attempting to reach the original designer. No notification of cancellations so you spend your time, your gas and your car getting to the apt and no one is there. Frequent low quality installations. Low grade customer service after the sale.

Pros

No cold calling, all warm leads and repeat customers filtered via Closet World Corporate office. Flexibility to accept or decline leads, ability to work interdependently via home office and travel to customers homes/businesses, working one on one with client/customers, helping customers to fulfill their desired design outcome and building a report for repeat business.

Cons

Once fully trained it is 100% commission based and you have to factor that into your mileage/travel/gas. An average customer meeting can go anywhere from 2-6 hours and you may not make a dime off all that time spent traveling, consulting, measuring, hand designing and helping the customer to receive the best deal possible. It is a lot of work and personal expense for what can lead to no compensation.

Pros

Training was out of my area so I got a weeks paid vacation. Trainer who trained on design was the best part of the week. Very knowledgeable and way too good for this company.

Cons

Everything else...Specifically, the company does not show any transparency with regard to commissions and pay for the "sales/designer" & promotions and pricing for the client. There are no perks with this company other than a bonus program and incentives program that they NEVER explained. Kinda like the carrot on a string dangling in front of your face. At the interview I was told that I could have a pretty open schedule and the job would work well with what I'm currently doing. NOT TRUE. First day of training they require you submit a schedule 1 month in advance. If you have to make any changes, you have to contact your manager who then tells you to fill out a schedule change request form. The feeling I got at the training was it was very much frowned upon. The sequence to the sale training is condescending and a little bit sexist and degrading to anyone who does not fit their 1950's idea of a family. The way they train is odd. I would have expected to go over payroll and commission agreements the first day but they hold all of that information until the last 10 minutes of the last day of a 5 day training. The 40% discount they offer clients is a joke. It's actually a tiered pricing program that's offered to ALL clients every time. Regardless of whether there's a sale or not. Very similar to the same pricing program they were sued for back in 2000. The management does not listen to questions and tends to talk over the people who ask the questions. I could go on and on and on. RED FLAGS from beginning to end...
