Do yourself a favor - stay casual

Pros

You make friends with regular customers which makes this job bareable. If you're a casual, you'll have the good wage and also get put on weekends which makes it even better. Small discount.

Cons

If your manager doesn't like you as a full/part-timer, prepare to be pushed out by being overworked, stressed - almost bullied. I had a manager try so hard to get rid of me, he pin-pointed down to the second when my phone was in my hand by looking over CCTV during my shift. Your manager will make or break you at this company. Standing for long hours. You're pushed to upsell products that are more expensive than just going to a Coles supermarket. (There was a coles supermarket about 100m from the Coles Express I was at. Stupidest business plan I have ever seen). They WILL send mystery shoppers to your store to make sure you upsell, if you don't, you will be penalized. Customers are there to fill up their cars, not to buy groceries for marked up prices. Customers will not - and do not clean up their own mess after using the coffee machine. You will be cleaning it over and over again every single shift. You will have thefts of fuel and store products. If you have a manager with unrealistic expectations, you will be overworked and stressed out. I had my manager set "traps" for me, but putting products out of place that I had already set out correctly (creating more work for me), and if i didn't fix it, I'd get yelled at the next day. At the start of every shift, you will have a new bit of paper to sign (either a new policy or notification from the company), and if you haven't, you will get yelled at by management. If you want to go for an ASM or SM position, if your manager doesn't like you, you won't be put up for the position. They would rather put their friends without leadership experience up for a management position, rather than someone they don't like that is interested. Ridiculous culture surrounding management.

Pros

-Lots of hours when you first start the job -always something to do if you work at a busy store -

Cons

- told me I was getting a promotion that never happened -Managers bad mouth staff to one another and to customers. I was sick in hospital one week and my manager had told some of the regular customers that I was probably faking it to go out and party -Hours drop as more casuals get hired -Constantly cutting trading hours of stores so shifts are automatically dropped without warning -each team member of my store have had up to 15 hours a week dropped from my roster due to shift changes without giving me any alternatives -Next to no career progression- head office and area manager jobs are given to uni graduates not employees. -customers blame you for fuel prices and it’s also the employees fault if a person steals fuel.

Pros

- Night shifts - Some of the crew members are awesome

Cons

- Some store managers are pressured by poor management into bullying staff and have no idea how to manage a store - Similarly, work politics for shift roster allocation is significantly present - No loyalty even after working for years unless you're full time and planning to be a store manager - Depending on your store location and manager you can have a good time or bad time
