Pros

Amex has become an industry leader in payments and customer service. That focus on providing a world class experience to card members extends to how the company treats employees. Amex is an extremely people-centric culture. They spend a lot of time focused on employee engagement, creating a inclusive culture, employee development and leadership development. They provide a great deal of work life balance - working virtually, flex days during the summer, or allowing new Moms to come back to a compressed work week while they transition back to work. There are also plenty of opportunities to move around company a grow your career. The benefits are great (this refers to US only) high deductible insurance but great coverage, vision, dental, onsite health screens, 401k matching, EAP, wellness coaching, and other programs offered through the Healthy Living Program.

Cons

As you progress your career at Amex the politics can become exhausting and even paralyzing. Amex is a very relationship based culture but also very hierarchical so you spend a lot of time managing senior leader egos. Sometimes placement in a particular job will be based on how much a senior leader likes you. Also decision making is very slow and there is a pervasive culture of passive aggressive communication. Every company has it's underbelly, but all of the above can ware on you after a while.

Pros

They have fantastic pay for the position you're in, and they teach you interesting and engaging utility of modern technology mixed with legacy fundamentals. I've learned quite a bit while AmEx while getting paid more than fairly - I'd recommend a stretch here to whomever may be reading this!

Cons

The Company is huge, and at times it may take more than a little time to get recognized for your abilities and the growth you've had. There's a reason there is a "only way up is out" reputation exists for some enterprise companies...
