My experience with Apex Group in Bulgaria, specifically within the Account Opening team, was deeply disappointing and unprofessional.
I joined the company with over 4 years of solid experience in KYC, KYB, and Financial Crime, coming from well-established and reputable organizations within the compliance field. This background makes it even more concerning how the situation was handled.
From day one, it was clearly communicated that I did not have direct experience in this exact function. The manager acknowledged this and initially expressed confidence in my potential, even stating she was willing to support and train me. During the first two weeks, I focused on reviewing internal procedures as expected. By the third week, I started handling my first case, which naturally came with a learning curve and some minor mistakes.
However, the management style was extremely inconsistent and unprofessional. Feedback would swing dramatically from “you’re doing a great job” one day to “you don’t understand anything” the next. This kind of behavior creates a toxic and unstable work environment where no one can realistically develop or perform effectively.
It’s also important to note that I was not the only one affected. Two colleagues had already resigned due to the same manager’s unpredictable and difficult attitude, which clearly indicates an ongoing issue rather than an isolated incident.
Despite still being in the early training phase, I was abruptly dismissed after the manager disapproved of a client email I drafted. Instead of providing constructive feedback or guidance, the situation was escalated directly to HR, resulting in my termination without a fair chance to improve.
Overall, this experience reflects a serious lack of leadership, structure, and professionalism. A company that fails to support new hires, especially those with proven experience in compliance, risks losing valuable talent and damaging its own work culture.
