Pros

Fully remote and great at async working Good work life balance as a pm (not for engineers) ICs you work with are generally nice and competent Decent pay Unlimited vacation and great parental leave Opportunity to try AI tools

Cons

PIP factory has created a culture of fear. Why would people work here with meta / amazon terrible culture but without meta / amazon level pay? A lot of processes/tool migration that slow down projects and create a lot of extra work for ICs. Most of these processes seem to be in place solely so a senior leader could get promoted. Designers are micromanaged by their senior leadership We used to have a great culture but are now just like most other big tech company but with less pay. Teams used to get together more frequently but now there’s only budget for maybe once a year Normal big company stuff: Politics caused by misaligned goals between orgs / crafts Occasional reorgs Have to create visibility for your work in order to succeed Lots of tech debt with some critical non-revenue generating teams makes work slow and difficult. But those teams don’t generate revenue so can never prioritize improving things. Normal fully remote stuff: If you work on a team that collaborates with teams in other time zones frequently, you may have a lot of meetings at odd hours. This is heavily team dependent. But in general people on the east coast struggle as we have lots of meetings with Australia.

Pros

Amazing people, I loved the core values, competitive salary, great benefits

Cons

I want to start by saying I am not bitter or angry. Working for Atlassian was a whirlwind. I was there for 11 months before being laid off via email. In my time there, I went through 2 re-orgs and 3 managers. It just always felt like being on a hamster wheel… in a hurricane. Today I received an email 7 weeks after I was laid off that started with, “ Congrats on your first year at Atlassian—we know that's a huge accomplishment and are beyond thrilled to be celebrating with you!” It was a bummer to receive that, to say the least, but it included a link to leave this Glassdoor review to “ help provide invaluable insight to future candidates and help us to improve your experience as an employee continually.” so here I am. My advice is to do proper change management of your automated emails when you layoff 5% of your workforce so that emails like this aren’t sent to hard working former employees that you eliminated congratulating them on a milestone they never reached. I know this wasn’t intentional, but it hurt.
