Great people & benefits, questionable senior leadership - Production Engineer BHP Employee Review

Pros

There are a lot of smart, interesting, caring people at BHP. The pay is great and the company has very progressive benefits due to being Australian (10-week parental leave for mothers & fathers, 3 weeks starting vacation, flex-work). Great place to get paid well and have work-life balance (for the short-term)

Cons

Organizational structure: BHP wants to be lean like other independent operators but has the risk tolerance of super-majors. You end up getting the worst of both. This should change once Woodside takes over. Due to size of petroleum and wavering commitment to growth, career opportunities get pretty limited. Promotions based on managing story upwards vs actual performance. Sr. Leadership doesn't inspire much trust. Uncertainty with Woodside purchase of petroleum (possibly more layoffs), lack of career growth opportunities.

Pros

Some good co-workers and good challenges

Cons

Leadership in the Tucson office is highly political and unprofessional. Feedback is not given directly. Local leadership is more interested in Linkedin posting and image, rather than anything of substance.
