I have been working at BHP full-time

    Pros

Genuinely support I&D and social value

    Cons

Large organisations like BHP can be difficult to get things done quickly

    Advice to Management

Balance governance and freedom to collaborate while transforming the company - too much of either creates waste and bureaucracy

I have been working at BHP full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Good work hours - Flexible - Reasonably well paid - Some people are very competent

    Cons

    - Big company politics - I'll defined scope of work/job - Focus on 50/50 male/female hire and promotion makes it hard to get promoted as a man - A lot of incompetent employees

    Advice to Management

    - Be more willing to sack incompetent people - The stringent focus on 50/50 male/female hire/promotion isn't in line with the split of job applicants or indeed with the split of people with STEM degrees. The target should be introduced more gradually and over a number of years. In the mean time, it would be more effective to spend money on encouraging girls to study STEM subjects. The current approach invariably... means often not hiring the best person for the job and over time will mean the staff and managements will see a decrease in competence

I worked at BHP full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good salary Good progress in diversity and inclusion, flex working Very high capability and drive for success

    Cons

Currently too much change which is disruptive, not adequately planned/coordinated and impacts to employees underestimated.

    Advice to Management

Stop listening to formulaic advice from big consulting companies and make the changes which are fit for purpose, not to hit %cost or people cuts. This will backfire and not hit the ROI projected.

"Need to get the foundational processes right"

I have been working at BHP full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great salary. Some very talented people. Flexible work.

    Cons

Strong politics. Loss of financial authority for managers. Too much constant change via reorganisation - fundamental processes remain broken

    Advice to Management

Reorganisation of people alone will not correct the disfunction - focus needs to be on making the underpinning processes work. There is still a scattergun approach to how teams work or engage other teams for work. This is inefficient.
