Pros

Only pro this company has is that they pay well as you enter the company. While that is a positive that fact that they will never let you grow outright undoes the positive Flexible team schedule Descent perks

Cons

Rampant favouritism As someone who has personally played a part in the company’s leadership team I was blown away with the rampant favouritism and clan mentality that is deep rooted within this company. There are literally 6/7 families that control the leadership (cause both husband and wife are in leadership positions). And it all starts at the top and then trickles down into every level. First you have to be white, then in their in group, then be their favourite and then if you can present yourself well and if all the stars align there is scope for you to move up in this company. If you are person of minority or a hard worker you are doomed. Re-orgs and promotions are rigged Every re-Org in this company is a chance for people at the top to give positions of power to their faithful. Also you can literally predict who will get promoted by looking at the org structure. It has got nothing to do with skill or work it’s all based on groupism. 30-35 year old people (husband and wife) are Directors and Senior directors and run this company like a Sorority. The sad part it everyone knows and plays a part in this toxic world. You can work hard and move mountains and your promo will be delayed caused you sneezed in a meeting and did not say excuse me while people who did nothing continue to move up and will eventually become your boss. US vs Canada madness The company is a sister concern of their US parent and everything they do comes from the US. The last this this company did which was of any use was building a guranteed product for sub-prime customers and now they milk it for decades. All the folks at the top do is the same 5-6 campaigns and high five each other. The US parent however is actually very very good but Canada leadership has massively lost its way. The only time I felt motivated was listening to Rich Fairbanks and then a month later I realized how different the ground reality in Canada is to his vision. No tech innovation While the US parent has done a ton of innovation in product and tech in Canada it is a mockery of Tech innovation. The company claims to operate like a nimble tech company which happens to be a bank but they are exactly the opposite. Nothing is done in name of innovation and lip service keeps you in the job. Nothing you do here adds to the resume other than the company name. Leadership is self obsessed This is the weirdest thing I have seen in a company and I have been in a lot of them in my career. People who are frankly kids love to talk about themselves that try to be comically vulnerable and personal with employees and because it is far from genuine people literally laugh at them in the background. They try to copy the US leadership which backs emotions by work but in Canada all you have to do is talk. Pretty funny actually to watch!

Pros

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Cons

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
