Pros

- great work-life balance - competitive salary - nice people - if you are in management you will love it to bits (not being sarcastic, you work with great people who pretty much manage themselves) - everything depends on which group/location you're at, I hear some are good though I haven't personally experienced this

Cons

if you are looking for a company where you will never do anything interesting but get paid well for it, this is a great place for you. There is so much red-tape and bureaucracy that you will literally spend 3 months on something that would take 1 hour in a regular technology company. (You only think I'm exaggerating because you haven't worked here. Yes, I was surprised too but it's possible, trust me.) Basically, they hire really smart people who are then told to "wait" before they can do something. Most of the employees think the whole charade is ridiculous but pretend it's okay because the work-balance and salary are good. So you are surrounded by nice folk who share in your misery of having nothing whatsoever to do. You are essentially getting paid to shut up and do things you know are wrong. So ask yourself something, are you prepared to surf the Internet all day long while you wait for someone in another location to become available for a meeting (two weeks from today) which is necessary to be allowed to get started on doing your work? Then you're set. Do you enjoy endless meetings where you are mentally checked out? Then this is a great place for you! Do you enjoy a changing landscape where yesterday's words are rendered meaningless by the new directives of today, which will be equally meaningless tomorrow because none of it matters? Do I have a company for you. If however you'd like to grow your job skills and are worried about becoming obsolete in your profession in a couple of years, avoid at all cost. If you are one of those sad people who like their work to have meaning, avoid at all costs. If you want to come home after a day of work and say, hey, I did something interesting today, avoid at all costs. You have been warned. Choose wisely, grasshopper.

Pros

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Cons

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
