Pros

Plenty of online learning resources available. Name recognition of company. Salary is on par with other large enterprises. Alleged “self development time”, but I suspect people rarely have that time due to intense workload.

Cons

Dell is fundamentally not a software company. This is reflected in how it handles software projects: non-technical business representatives call the shots and Product Management has no power. This translates to nonsensical, shifting requirements and crazy workloads for the entire team. Eventually the good engineering talent leaves. On my project, there’s no real concern for data integrity, quality control, documentation, or development processes in general. It’s all a dance to make it look like work is progressing quickly while the tech debt mountain grows larger. Dell also wants to offshore 70% of their engineering staff overseas, which will only add more chaos.

Pros

The people are the best part of this job. I have met so many amazing people in this role. Even some I would consider life long friends. I think the experience gained from this job has also been useful for any sales role you may need for any future endeavors in sales or the tech industry.

Cons

Upper management has made many changes to the compensation and the metrics which has for sure effected employee satisfaction. Turnover rate is insane as there’s a new hire class literally every month. Dell itself is running out of room and they are not making any new teams for the new hire classes which has left more tenured reps in a vulnerable position.
