Poor remuneration for after-hours support - Senior Engineer Iress Employee Review

Pros

Long weekend leave, ability to work from home

Cons

Do you think it’s reasonable to be woken during the night to attend to an after-hours support call, log in and work (for however long it takes to fix the issue) and only be paid $40 in total? I don’t. And this has been brought to management on numerous occasions over several years and nothing gets done about it. Would be good to be able to work from home 5 days per week. We are software engineers, not salespeople. Coming in to the office actually distracts and reduces the ability to focus.

We appreciate the flexibility that you and others show in providing after-hours support. We are reviewing our global on-call policy, and, when it comes to overall remuneration, we provide an all-round package of salary/benefits that rewards people for their performance and which is competitive in local markets. Our approach to hybrid working is just one part of the flexibility we provide. We ask everyone to work in the office three days a week (with the exception of people who are contractually remote-based) but this is about much more than just being present. It’s about connection, collaboration, building stronger relationships, solving problems faster, and staying aligned as a team.

Pros

People, Good central office (Melbourne) Staff benefits are ok

Cons

Engineering management is a let down - poor behaviours, micromanagement, lack of trust - the list can go on. Seems to get swept under the carpet or ignored so patterns continue to fester and have for years.
