Pros

Shopify is the best place to work if you truly value both personal and professional growth. I've been at the company for less than a year now but have had both friends and family notice a change in my own development. This place has taught me to act like an owner, take risks, and learn how to thrive outside of my comfort zone - while still being myself! I don't need to put on my work face, or a corporate persona when I walk in the doors. I also love that we have coaches internally as well - literally a team of people who are here to help you grow, and deal with stress, or even work through a problem. I could go on and on about all the things I love about working here, and yes of course I'm biased but my life has truly changed for the better since walking in the front doors almost 8 months ago now. I left an industry and a career I thought I'd be in forever when Shopify reached out to me and took the risk on a completely new opportunity and don't regret the move!

Cons

I love what I do, and there are always so many things that can be done so I find myself having a hard time turning off sometimes. Our leads are pretty great at helping us work on work-life balance and the coaching session & mindfulness training are great tools to help with this as well.

Pros

Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

Cons

Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

Pros

Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

Cons

Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
