Pros

Working at Shopify comes with great benefits and perks. When you sign on, you get outfitted with quality office furniture from a company called Herman Miller. You also receive a laptop (type of laptop depends on your role in the company). The company also issues a "spending account" that is in addition to your salary. This spending account can be added to an RRSP for retirement savings, used for health & wellness spending (gym, groceries, etc), or used to top up your health benefits. The base health benefits are great, with mostly everything being covered. You can opt for 100% coverage by usign you spending account to top up. They also have fun additionals, like expensing professional development courses and books, a gift on your birthday, free lunch (expensed through the company approx. once per month).

Cons

Depending on your manager and area of work, workload can be a bit demanding. There was lots of room for advancement a while ago, however it seems now there is not much movement opportunities within the company unless you have a high demand skill (like a developer, etc).

Pros

Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

Cons

Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

Pros

Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

Cons

Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
