Pros

- Worked on some pretty large scale and visible projects, ones that people recognize. - Lots of resources to back you up. If you didn't know something, guaranteed that someone would be able to provide you the answer in the company. - Average age of the staff, in my office anyways, was fairly young. Great atmosphere and lots of energy, made a ton of really good personal friends working there. - Well respected and knowledgeable senior staff. Many great mentors.

Cons

- Company was way too focused on the bottom line. The way the company operates is simliar to the way things were back in 2004-2007 when there was too much work and profits were juicy. In this economy, it is impossible to maintain those profit margins. This lead to thousands of layoffs. - Senior staff were spread out too thin. Most of our PMs were at the Principal, VP or SVP level. There was a high level chargeability expected for these individuals which took away from their administrative work. - Little in the way of career development. Feedback was usually only provided once a year during your annual review. Final rankings were based on a exceeds/meets/does not meet expectations scale, which generally meant that 90% of staff fell into the meets expectations category. - HR was useless. Our HR advisor took days to get back to you. - Company is extremely top and admin heavy. If you look at the Company's financial results, almost half of the corporate expenses is in the senior management, HR, marketing and corporate services area. - Bad corporate attitude. The view of senior management is that "we are the best, because we are the best". Very narrow minded view, especially coming from the client side. - Little in the way of corporate communication. Most of what was sent was the typical corporate drivel, which had very little relevance to the day to day operation of the company.

Pros

Working as an Administrative Assistant at Stantec involves a wide range of responsibilities and can be highly rewarding for those who are motivated and proactive. The office environment is positive, and colleagues are approachable and collaborative. Being part of a large international organization also brings a strong sense of pride and purpose to the role.

Cons

One downside of working at Stantec is the uncertainty around job security, as organizational restructuring and cost-saving measures can sometimes lead to unexpected layoffs.

Pros

Hybrid Work and access to useful engineering tools

Cons

Projects are inconsistent in organization and structure (some good some bad). High (and strict) utilization requirements of >93% for entry level and mid level engineers results in overtime with overlapping work loads to avoid any downtime between projects. No development or mentorship strategy around work assignments, the main goal is to keep utilization up. Stantec has been very focused on cutting costs by offshoring, limiting conference attendance, reducing volunteer hours, no tuition reimbursement, multiple layers of approvals to attend in-office CPR training, etc. Very corporate environment and top heavy management with over 240+ “Vice Presidents” currently at the company. Difficult to get raises/promotions besides annual raise. Typical raise is ~3-5% with a good review depending on where your current salary is in relation to the pay range for your career level.
