Pros

I enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid schedule with occasional travel for fieldwork. I experience about 20% fieldwork and 80% desktop work which I do at home. Not all managers are as flexible about hybrid work though. You start with 2 weeks vacation and 1 week of sick time per year. 10 paid holidays. After 3 years here, you start earning 3 weeks of vacation. Some people are salaried but I am hourly. So get paid straight time for any extra hours worked (not time-and-a-half). My group has low turnover and people tend to stay for years. Due to the size of the company and the constant acquisitions of other smaller companies, work can be very siloed, which has pros and cons. One of the pros is getting well rounded experience in many aspects of project lifecycle because we do almost everything ourselves. It is consistently rated one of the most sustainable companies which is nice. Overall I enjoy my job, manager is not a micromanager so I am able to ignore the corporate bloat side of things and have a good work-life balance.

Cons

Annual raises are not enough to keep up with inflation. I have found it difficult to move up and pay seems to be less than other consulting companies. Process to move up is confusing and it seems leaving the company is the only way to get a significant pay raise. Pressure to maintain high utilization rate / billable hours, which you would find at any consulting company. This can be difficult in the slow periods when no work is coming in, which is out of my control. I could see it being difficult for new employees. If your manager does not assign you work, you have to seek it out yourself by asking around. Some project managers tend to underestimate the time a project will take in order to land a bid, which can lead to rushing and sloppy work. Fieldwork can be grueling at times especially in summer and winter - surveying along the side of a busy interstate highway or in the waste dumping area of a power plant. Sometimes I think fieldwork should include hazard pay in addition to per diem. It can be dangerous and difficult. The company prides itself on safety but in reality, it really just means you do a bunch of paperwork and then go do dangerous things anyway (working in extreme heat, cold, direct sunlight, next to busy roads, ticks, poison ivy, snakes, homeless camps, construction sites...). However if you ever feel really unsafe, anyone can use their judgement and put their foot down to stop the work, without serious repercussions. Like I mentioned, groups are very siloed and there is very little sharing/collab between teams or offices. I'm sure your particular experience is highly dependent on what your manager/work group is like. Seems a bit middle- and upper- management heavy with constant reconfiguration of what person is in charge of what subgroup within the company, which doesn't really have any significance on anything.

Pros

Working as an Administrative Assistant at Stantec involves a wide range of responsibilities and can be highly rewarding for those who are motivated and proactive. The office environment is positive, and colleagues are approachable and collaborative. Being part of a large international organization also brings a strong sense of pride and purpose to the role.

Cons

One downside of working at Stantec is the uncertainty around job security, as organizational restructuring and cost-saving measures can sometimes lead to unexpected layoffs.

Pros

Hybrid Work and access to useful engineering tools

Cons

Projects are inconsistent in organization and structure (some good some bad). High (and strict) utilization requirements of >93% for entry level and mid level engineers results in overtime with overlapping work loads to avoid any downtime between projects. No development or mentorship strategy around work assignments, the main goal is to keep utilization up. Stantec has been very focused on cutting costs by offshoring, limiting conference attendance, reducing volunteer hours, no tuition reimbursement, multiple layers of approvals to attend in-office CPR training, etc. Very corporate environment and top heavy management with over 240+ “Vice Presidents” currently at the company. Difficult to get raises/promotions besides annual raise. Typical raise is ~3-5% with a good review depending on where your current salary is in relation to the pay range for your career level.
