Pros

I was paid on time.

Cons

Working at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was the worst experience of my professional life. Leadership is shockingly toxic and even bigoted—astonishingly, I witnessed leaders make derogatory remarks about Indians, and they themselves were Indian. As a woman, I was treated like I was worthless. Their work culture, which is heavily influenced by their Indian roots, does not align with American values of respect, inclusion, and transparency. Leadership lies both to employees and to clients. They will say anything to win business, regardless of their ability to deliver on promises. Once they win a client, they often fail to meet expectations, leaving employees to deal with the fallout. If you value professionalism, ethical behavior, and respect, avoid this company. Their inability to adapt culturally and operationally to American standards makes them a nightmare to work for.

Pros

Large client base. Talented people, have "cracked the code" on offshoring development and support.

Cons

For anyone used to working in US-based firms, the culture and politics will be difficult to understand and navigate. Internal policies and systems focus on the offshore delivery center model. Roles in the US do not fit into that mold, and obtaining approvals for simple expenses can require weeks and insanely high approval chains given the size of TCS. I needed approval from a global division head (a CEO direct-report) just to pay for a short training course. Missions of different departments are not clearly defined, so overlap and conflict are common.
