Pros

1) great values, lots of community service opportunities 2) good salary for most, and bonus system for managers and above, pretty good recognition system 3) smart business model and competitive 4) seems genuinely engaged with the customers and communities 5) a lot of really great peers who all work hard and who are interested in contributing to success

Cons

1) awful life/work balance: very little PTO (10 days), only five holidays, no sick time (you are expected to work from home), don't complain about working a lot hours until you're consistently hitting 55+ (and in some departments, even then, keep quiet) 2) old boys club (yes, even still) 3) performance reviews are compared to other employees instead of hitting/exceeding your own goals, promotions are tough to come by unless you switch departments 4) oh, and the health benefits are terrible. I'm looking at another company right now where it would cost me 1/3 of what I'm spending now and I'd get a better plan

Pros

The Home Depot has a solid moral compass. They aren't about sacrificing their ethics for the sake of a sale, which I love. They also hire a diverse group of people and give a lot back to the community. They offer a lot of benefits and little treats for their employees. Although they push their associates to meet quota, they're realistic about what can and can't be accomplished.

Cons

Home Depot has two different sides to it. Store associates and those of us considered "store support" who are payed by the vendors but work in the stores 100% of the time. I constantly hear about how store associates are stressed out by management and their hours are being rearranged a lot, cut, and they often are stretched thin due to lack of full staffing. "Store support" associates who do merchandising have it better than those who work in specific departments. However, you never really gain knowledge unless you have the time to look things up and read packaging.
