Pros
There are still pockets of goodness within VMware so those who stick around, are doing it because they are with a good team. They just poured tons of money and stocks to retain people and now promoting so many people even those who don't deserve it that its diluting the value of promotions.
Cons
Leaders in the company are either in denial or unaware of the dysfunction in the guts of the company. They reward leaders who are great at managing up even if they are unable to maintain organizational health and growth. When issues are raised openly including at a public leadership forum, instead of acknowledging the issues or asking for more details, they turn the issue back to middle managers to address without any accountability at the top. This used to be a great place to work until we allowed bad seeds to grow in the company.
