Pros

Depending on the department and manager/director, Verizon can be a great place to work. If you are an ambitious and talented individual, you will be given challenging projects and opportunities for growth. Telecommuting is permitted and there is some flexibility in scheduling.

Cons

Given challenges faced in the telecommunications industry, particularly rapid line loss on the Telecom side, there have been multiple involuntary reductions in force per year. Morale has been extremely low, and with fewer people to carry the same amount of work, employees are working day and night with little appreciation. It is a frustrating situation, and the culture is changing to a work-oriented, no family matters place. Most organizations are completely focused on just getting the job done, no matter how much time it takes from people's lives. Moreover, the senior leadership team doesn't have the direction and guidance to motivate the employees. Telecom Finance is a dismal place to work right now with the constant layoffs. Regional Marketing isn't much better either.

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
