So much potential, such poor execution.

Pros

Pay is fantastic. I was paid well above market rates, the work is challenging and I was always busy. Flexible hours were great.

Cons

There is no career progression outside of the US. Teams are so scared that they will be next on the RIF list they refuse to share knowledge to maintain a job. There is an 'old boys club' culture at work, unless you're in with them, you're not in. The training allowance they provide is convoluted and difficult to navigate, I felt sorry for those in Asia that would have to come in early to argue with an american that didn't believe that Verizon existed outside of the US

Pros

The job is kind of tough, you are constantly pushed by the customer and there is no safe net or buffering. Hence, it forces you to be more efficient with time. It actually made me very seasoned engineer and absolutely technical lead in the next office both technically and mentally.

Cons

It’s either going to make you or break you if you dont mind micro management and not getting appreciated and recognised for the good job you do. Dont join if you are network engineer, because it’s a security environment with little network components and you will get laughed at if dont know how exactly does a firewal works I have never got the time or approval to do the $8000 budget training that they promote in the job ads at the time.

Pros

$8,000 USD study assistance. Discounts on health insurance/benefits. Incentives for holding government certifications. Plenty of vendor training and access to documentation.

Cons

Management in my office had not matured from entry level management. Excessive micro management, clock watching and do not treat staff with any level of professionalism. Management employ relatives or friends they play online games with to sit below as section team leaders. Overall Verizon is a great company to work for with some really clever guys. But this section of the company needs addressing before recommending anyone to work there.
