Pros

Young and somewhat friendly staff (if you're into lad culture and don't mind casual racism/ sexism)

Cons

Gemserv does not add value to the industries it's meant to serve. All work is mindless, repetitive admin. People get hired and fired/ leave on a monthly basis. Development opportunities are close to non-existent as there's nothing to learn. No one knows what they're doing. Top tip: ask anyone what their job entails and see them ah and uhm their way out of it, and always throw an "it's difficult to explain" in; if they do explain it to you they're either lying or have trained it at home and mainly use words that'd don't mean anything. All the positive reviews on Glassdoor have been bullied out of current employees. Salary is a joke, especially considering what direct competitors like Elexon and Electralink offer, and their office location.

Gemserv Response

I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy working at Gemserv. I am particularly upset at your remark of casual sexism & racism. I have zero tolerance for any such behaviour and will address any incidences if brought to my attention. We pride ourselves in an open culture where anyone can speak to anyone, and everyone can always approach me, HR or any other member of the Management Team with any concerns, as we all sit together in the same office. I think we will have to disagree about adding value to the industries we serve, as I passionately believe we make a real difference. On our people, I do know there are many that have learnt a lot and developed whilst at Gemserv. For example, around 40% of our employees have either been promoted, are part of a development programme, or progressed into new teams. Our recent Investors in People Gold Award is testament to that. However, I understand different roles suit different people and I’m sorry that there wasn’t the right fit for you. I do hope you have now found the right role and are doing well.

Pros

A pleasant working environment and some good parties.

Cons

Their hiring strategy is to hire overqualified graduates to do administrative roles and then manage their dissatisfaction with lack of progression and compensation then wait for them to resign. This makes their books look good as they have many graduates but is a dead end start career wise for a graduate. School leavers could do the majority of jobs at this firm. A very small section of the work force get paid very well. The other "worker bees" work hard to build this small sections wealth.
