      Large Number SpEd/504 Studs: Little Support

      Pros

      Hard working, friendly teachers, who do their best with minimum resources. Math has iXL program.

      Cons

      Large number of special ed/504 students: up to 1/3 in one group of 25 in classroom that should fit 20 max. Hired last quarter of SY 2023-2024 to cover for teacher who had little stud behavior support. In interview, I was told that I'd have 2-3 sped/504 max per group! Ineffective curriculum manual for teacher w/NO textbooks for studs. Teacher must find course materials online for science. Because of limited space, labs limited to teacher's demos, if at all. Insurance very expensive (employee = $150/pp) w/$5K deductible. Not all earnings paid up-front; lump sum in June instead.

      Education is hard right now

      Pros

      Good support between people with the same title, staff clearly really care about their students.

      Cons

      It felt like there was a disconnect between the district office and the campuses. Education as a whole field is hard right now. Other schools pay their social workers better and include them in bonus structures.
