    Pros

Great colleagues. This is a place full of talent, people, that want to bring change.

    Cons

Lots of restructuring, upper management is oblivious to Morale drain.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits were good (except health insurance--moved to plan where deductibles are huge).

    Cons

Constant change...I think they reorg just for the sake of reorg. I was part of a huge downsize in IT. During my 60 day period had to take multiple people to do my work because they kept leaving. In the end had 1 week to train a replacement and the management opinion was "oh well". DO NOT believe the comments regarding working from home or otherwise telecommuting. They have downsized people just because they were telecommuters. I successfully telecommuted for over 10 years (starting with Safeco) but could not get another job in the company because I couldn't move to Boston.

    Advice to Management

Musical chairs should not be a corporate culture.

Constant chang in environment and processes. Company consistently looks how to improve customer experience but sometimes the details in how to execute the standard work.

    Advice to Management

Ask more dront line employees for feedback before deploying new ideas.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance (More than a year)

    Pros

-Opportunity for growth based on performance, not tenure.
-Large company, small community feel (Thursday night bowling league, fall festivals, ice cream parties, 5k's)
-Work from home benefits based on performance & readiness.
    -Recognition is a huge deal.
    -High tech, constant innovation.

    Cons

No Cons - To address other cons seen on this page, yes, change happens, it can be scary. But to stay relevant, we must change with the times. If we don't change with the outside world, we don' t continue to grow. To not change is to still carry around a flip phone.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours help if you're not a 9-5 kind of person. Office location is convenient for commuting.

    Cons

The culture is permeated with politics, passive aggressiveness, bullying, and resistance to change. Some people are held accountable and others aren't, which is demoralizing, and it's very apparent as to which functions in the company are valued and which are not (soft skill jobs). Slow promotions make it even harder to deal with the environment. Benefits are also not great - expensive to fund an HSA plus pay a still fairly sizable premium and then pay fully out of pocket because not a lot of doctors in MA want to take United. If you go to work just to collect a paycheck, you're fine, but if you want fulfillment in your work and to feel valued, it's a hit or miss depending on your department and appetite for playing politics.

    Advice to Management

Develop a long-term vision and stick to it, every re-org feels like a short-sighted, knee-jerk reaction. People want to really be heard, not just surveyed to become a data point. Don't forget, employees are also customers...I pulled my policies when I left my job because I was so disappointed by how I was treated an an employee.

    Pros

    -Large company so many options
-Fairly progressive for an older company

    Cons

-Large size of company ends up resulting in the people in the top neglecting to ask the people doing the job what they need in order to perform better.
-Certain roles dead end in an unsatisfying spot

    Advice to Management
