A Masterclass in Mismanagement

Pros

- Definitely a value add to one's career if you'd like learn how not to run a business, make decisions, build teams etc. - Good people driving the business as much as possible

Cons

If you've ever wondered what the antithesis of e-commerce expertise looks like, look no further. The new senior management at this company has embarked on a fascinating journey of cluelessness, seemingly unaware of the basic tenets of e-commerce, user experience, marketing, operations, or finance. It's as if they're pioneering a bold new strategy: "How not to run an e-commerce business 101". The team they've assembled is a testament to their innovative approach to cost-saving - hire the most junior people possible as senior management and then empower them to make critical decisions. It's a bold move, ensuring that salaries remain low and expectations even lower. In a stroke of genius, senior management decided to 'preserve the culture' by laying off 90% of the workforce that wasn't Swedish. It was so openly discussed that it almost felt like a new, inverted form of transparency. They're not just building a team; they're curating a very specific cultural exhibit. The cherry on top is their apparent phobia of data and how it's led to a nosedive in sales. With no additional investment and a strategic pivot away from data analytics, they're steering the company towards an inevitable bankruptcy with the grace of a runaway train. Watching them attempt to manage sales without data has been like observing a slow-motion train wreck, with management cheering from the first car. That being said, it is a bit fun to watch them trying to make pretty presentations without any data like a bunch of five year olds who got their hands on a brand new box of crayons. And for their final act, they've taken to creatively 'fixing' the financials at month-end. It's a performance so transparent you'd think they were doing it for applause. A piece of friendly advice to the board: maybe ask a couple more questions at the next meeting? It's not exactly a complex puzzle to solve.

Pros

Pros - If you are a "talker" you might end up high in the ranks, without doing much actual work or creating value. Value creators are crammed in between middle management to jr positions. - You don't have to have a shining or relevant background to start working here, anyone can get a job at na-kd. - It's a place for people to "slack off", meaning you can do the bare minimum and keep your job. - For some positions, the company is flexible, meaning that you can "work" from anywhere in the world without coming to the office and not many people are following that up. - In most cases, teammates you'd have is the only motivation to keep on working.

Cons

- Verbal agreements are not valid, even to some extent written agreements too. You must be prepared that everything can happen overnight; you can get fired with no good reason at all, your job description can change, your bonus or option program can be cancelled and such. It's not a place to have long term plans with.  - There is not a real difference between slacking off and really putting in effort for your job. Reward of extra work, extra output is not valued ("slacker" and "overachiever" difference in terms of benefits is less than 5%) so there is no incentive for running the extra mile.  - If you have change in managers and new one doesn't like you, expect to be subject to mobbing and getting fired eventually. - If you are a foreigner in this company, you are on thin ice at all times. Company will assume you need them to hold onto your residency permit and be okay with whatever they want in your career, income, job description or workload.  - Inexperienced management, they have no clue on how to run a business. They recently had a change in the top management, old ones left in a hurry. New ones seem to have no plan to fix the course whatsoever nor the experience. Only plan they came up with -or hired to execute- was laying off 30% of the company, and they didn't even have a plan on where to cut costs. Now they are closing down departments left and right without fully knowing what that department was doing. There is also a vacuum in the power dynamics in the company due to the fact that there is actually no one in charge, there is a massive blame game going within the company when sales are down. New boss seems to have no control of the situation or the people, probably due to his lack of experience; only sits in the room with both feet on the table and keeps telling everyone that he sleeps well. - Company advocates being green and environmentally sustainable. That is also highly incorrect. There was a section on the site called Na-kd Circle, which claims that users can sell and buy second hand clothing. In reality, customers could not sell their second hand products on site, and products listed on site as "second hand" or "pre-loved" are nothing but defective customer returns.

Pros

- Meeting international people - Inside into the world of ”fast fashion” - Working with international customers - No need for dressing smart for the office, you can wear whatever you like - Dog friendly - It looks cool on Social Media to brag - Internship is very easy to get - It looks good on CV if you want to build a career in fashion - You can make connections with the customers with your work/approach. Connections are crucial in the business. - Learn how to work with investors/agents/influencers/grow sales/procedures, programs and business tools they use/how to set prices and margines

Cons

- No pay, not even traffic expenses or occasional lunch, 40% clothes discount! - Bullied into overtime so the managers don’t need to work as much and they take your work as their own! - Managers with no experince!! Key account and co-lab managers with a background just as a sales advisor from Zara, Are do kidding me? - Promised a position after the internship? Never gonna happen if you do not spend your evenings at the office, some people spend the night in the office and never leave work! - No creativity from the design team as everything is copy past and send from ’head of fashion’ who does not have fashion sense at all! - Stealing design from other brands, complete silhuettes and naming that inspiration? - All the managers are owners friends, he just gave a department to each friend. This is the main reason why the management is so bad, no skills at all! - Mobbing from the management and some co-workers only because you are an intern! - Nobody teaches you, everything you learn you have to do it by yourself! - Very stressful work environment! Very frustrating with your work-life balance in general! - Basic salary if you are not very smart to ask for it, 90-120 SEK per hour before taxes, you will earn more as housekeeping! - 50/60% of the company are interns because they do not want to pay or they will say that they do not have a budget for employment? No wonder if they are paying themselfes how much?? - Buying followers, creating alias/fake e-mails to communicate with influencers - Bad quality, cheap polyester and plastic - Not sustainable at all and do not care to be - A lot of people in the company are boyfriend-girlfriend and this is the main reason they are hired because connections are crucial even if your competence is 0 - Office/Kitchen is always very dirty and full of dust, all the plants are dry and dead! - Studio is always a mess, people are sitting in the dark with no windows! - Everything you do is ASAP because, is there an other way? Like maybe doing it on time so you do not put pressure on other people at the end to clean your sh*t after you messed everything up? - Fluctuation of people is enormous, employees are coming and leaving as we speak! - Always behind budget but acting like you are in the top of the game? How about not? - You can not act as a start-up after having 200+ people working there! - Na-kd will never be Zara, dream on!
