"Good in many ways, but some toxic leadership practices"

I worked at TechnologyOne full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working at TechnologyOne has the feeling of being part of a community where there are plenty of opportunities to connect with others across the organisation and feel positive about where you work. This includes: town hall meetings; all hands meetings; hack days; team building activities; work showcases; celebrating events like the Melbourne Cup; well catered Friday drinks; and volunteering activities. There are also other benefits, such as well stocked kitchens with a variety of breakfast foods, including coffee machines. Obviously a lot of these perks were not available during the Covid lockdown, but should start up again. You are able to do good work and improve outcomes if you are willing to push hard against the sometimes counter productive leadership.

    Cons

The pay is not competitive for many employees, especially if you take into consideration the heavy restrictions on resourcing that force employees to endure long working hours and high stress to achieve business goals. While there are many good leaders in the organisation, the culture and practices at TechnologyOne act as no deterrent to aggressive and often counter productive people continuing to hold leadership positions. So many good people are constantly fighting to do good work against leadership that is only concerned about politics and looking like they are doing a good job. I personally experienced a leader who was very good at putting on a show of being a good leader, but who was very counterproductive and toxic to work with. This included straight up lying and playing the victim when they were definitely not the victim.

I have been working at TechnologyOne full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The people at the coalface are great to work with and work hard together for a good outcome. Most lower level managers are fantastic and appear to genuinely try their best to deliver good outcomes and support their team. Good facilities and office space.

    Cons

    - An old boy's club at the Senior leadership and Executive level who seem almost incapable of focusing their attention on the structural issues at the company. They appear more interested in playing politics and setting themselves up for a better role up the ladder. Too many 'protected species' who have been in this club so long that they can do no wrong and are stuck in their ways. - Communication is very poor, a lot of decisions made from the top down without consultation or room for discussion - Development teams are drastically under resourced and over committed. You are set up to fail and disappoint your customers with the outcome. - Salary is below market. They still stick to the misguided startup mindset that providing a pool table and beer on a Friday is equivalent to a good culture and perks, making up for the poor remuneration. - Real career and development opportunities are limited.

I have been working at TechnologyOne full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice culture if you find the right team Very smart people to work with

    Cons

The pay is relatively low compared to other similar companies The development ecosystem is all in-house which isn't necessarily a bad thing however, it is becoming continually convoluted over time with lots of time wasted merging 10,000 line long XML files where the environment you have to work on crashes quite often because it struggles to open such a file. If you are not a system architect, it seems like your opinion doesn't matter Feels like a boys club, toxic masculinity everywhere There are walls, you can barely talk to people outside of your team about work without making it awkward, everyone keeps to themselves and if you want to try branch out you get shot down at so many. I have seen a circumstance where one team member was asking another team member a question and yelled at because they didn't clear it with them first.

    Pros

    HO Facilities are pretty good

    Cons

Incompetent Management at most levels. The further up you go the more incompetent they become. Old boys club No respect for the people at the coalface Under resourced and over committed Setup to fail projects If you are over 40 and technical you are gone Claims of record profit every year but try getting a pay increase! Redundancies for those over 40, jobs advertised a few weeks later for juniors/grads.

I have been working at TechnologyOne full-time

    Pros

The team at the coal face are generally good quality people. The variety of systems and clients does give an initial opportunity for choice. Software has some fundamentally good ideas, and the breadth of clients and industries to get back into growth. Decades of experience in industries, and by staff and with AUSPAC and UK based clients.

    Cons

The upgrade of front end systems has not included improvement in underlying architecture or design. Lack of end to end testing, or integration across modules, or of development across all modules, or an increase focus on specific verticals and purely in AUSPAC or UK client base. "New features" are often just upgrades from old features, with industry standard and best practice and existing clients lagging behind. The workload continues to increase with being set up to fail. The Bris-Vegas blame shift of delivery issues, or yelling, or "gas lighting" of hard workers, or buffering / delegating to others who have no control over resources. The increased paper chase with no quality / value add.
