    I worked at Thales full-time

    Pros

Workforce are full of knowledge and majority are great people and easy to work with.

    Cons

Too many levels of management, the upper part being old dinosaurs who are stuck in their old way of thinking. Consultation is not a part of their vocabulary.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers as people have a lot more knowledge than your willing to accept. Loyalty and long tenures are all well and good but times are changing, you’ve got to move with them.

I have been working at Thales full-time for more than a year

    Pros

New office for out at World Trade Center ATM Business Coffee machine Colleagues at worker level. Leadership is good at making promises and presenting BS. your manager is the determining factor. Most lack leadership ability, technical expertise, integrity, general ability to interact. excrement flows down hill. Paid to look for other work.

    Cons

Fear culture No leadership HR is negligent/ evil in Carnet springs to mind. Senior management negligent, not interested, if they are involved they won’t add any value, just block or fail to make a decision. Nothing real here. French vs UK, Ausie’s are can fodder/Punching bags Early starts late finishes (that’s what they mean by flexible working. I’ll be surprised if this business actually delivers a functioning...

    Advice to Management

Don’t believe management has the competence or willingness to understand/investigate the real issues. Customer needs to step in and give the business a good shake up. Group needs to step in and shake up leadership.

I worked at Thales full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Colleagues were nice to work with

    Cons

Difficult to travel to destination. Management provide no direction, team really disengaged, stab in the back culture

    Advice to Management

Look at your senior leadership team and really question whether you want them to continue leading your company.

I worked at Thales full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The employees are very friendly and nice

    Cons

The management (mainly the French) and HR are horrible (understatement), very disconnected, the work atmosphere is bad, looking to put the blame on everyone, old fashion, not willing to improve processes within the organisation, it seams like the company is divided into 2 (employees from France and Australia)

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the French management, be open to changes, stop blamming employees over your mistakes, create good environment.

I have been working at Thales full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting and dynamic projects Excellent work culture Focus on employee training and development Opportunities for Advancement Opportunities for flexible work (depending on your job requirements and supervisor)

    Cons

High degree of scrutiny in projects can be, at times, stifling Workload can be high at times Some senior leaders can occasionally focus on lists of buzz-words rather than actual, specific and meaningful action. Heavily restrictive IT systems (for security) limit access to current modern software and tools I have known some staff who started at graduates who are significantly under-paid due to being started on graduate...

    Advice to Management

Generally Thales is a good place to work, though I understand this can vary greatly depending on the people you work with and for. I would like to see a shift to a more agile operating method (not 'Agile' with a capital 'A') and shift focus for R&D away from waterfall style management focussed on budgets and milestones and more towards spiral style, flexible projects focussed on the capability.

I have been working at Thales for more than a year

    Pros

The culture - great culture in the workplace, couldn't imagine a better environment to work in person-wise. Interesting work - get to work on some really interesting projects. Travel - so far opportunities for travel both within and outside of Australia. Immediate (and immediate +1) management and C-suite/VPs are all enthusiastic and seem to really care about you and the business. I've had only positive interactions....

    Cons

Pay well below market rates - senior management insists they pay market, but it comes across like they're being deliberately misleading. There appeared to be some movement to rectify this after a recent employee survey, though that seems to have slowed down. "One size fits all" IT Policies can be stifling - Sometimes it seems like we spend more time working around ES than doing productive work. A Software Engineer...

    Advice to Management

Re-examine remuneration. Reconsider ES attitudes towards technical staff. Protect employees from manager politics. Stop ranking employees and forcing them to a bell curve. It kills motivation, haemorrhages talent and is an outdated practice.

I have been working at Thales full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Reasonable low-level managers and friendly coworkers - Decent perks and 4 weeks paid leave per year - Free coffee - Highly skilled workers enhance your growth - Flexible work hours are possible - Fantastic design work on some projects that makes me love my job

    Cons

    - Noncompetitive salary for new staff despite same tasks as senior engineers - Political battles and heavy gossip - Aging workforce and under-staffing - Business processes and documentation can slow down work

    Advice to Management

Even if you don't hire any more employees this year, they need to be allocated more appropriately. One department had 30 new starters while another had 2 employees leave and not be replaced.
