Microsoft reached out to recruit me for an enterprise sales role, so I entered the process with a lot of excitement and respect for the opportunity. After several initial conversations, I completed a three hour panel interview. The interviewers were great and shared positive feedback about my performance.
After that, everything went silent. For two months I waited with no meaningful updates, despite following up. Eventually I discovered that the role had been closed out entirely, without any communication or feedback from the team.
As a candidate who was proactively recruited, this felt especially disappointing. I invested significant time studying, preparing, and tailoring my work for a role I did not even apply for. A company of Microsoft’s size should be able to provide clear timelines, transparency, and at minimum a brief explanation when they close a role after bringing someone through a full panel.
I’m sharing this to help other candidates understand what to expect. The people I met were strong, but the overall experience lacked communication and left me feeling that my time and effort were not valued.
