I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Microsoft (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2015
Interview
I had a phone interview with them after submitting my resume and also through employee referral. They asked me a lot of simple programming questions and even the "tricky" programming questions in which they try to assess how you think. The interviewer was a HR person with some technical background and was very personable and relaxed. I actually had bad service where I was and they went ahead and called me on my Skype, which was no issue.

They told me how I would explain a recursive function to a five-year-old
Straightforward technical loop overall, with strong interviewers at every stage. I genuinely enjoyed the in-depth conversations around technical challenges and algorithmic problem-solving — the entire process felt well-structured and genuinely engaging.

Interview
The interview was hard, even as a fresher the dsa they asked was hard category after I checked on leetcode. Though I couldn't solve it. Some of the other people who interviewed were asked easy - medium dsa
The interview was a long process. There was first the recruiter screen, which was followed by a 4-loop interview structure that covered technical, behavioral, and system design. The interviewers were very kind and accommodating.
