About the role

The WCHN Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) Development Group develops and maintains CPGs on behalf of the Paediatric Improvement Collaborative (PIC), which includes the Victorian, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australian Health Departments, with other states/territories in the process of joining. The purpose of the CPGs is to outline best practice clinical management in relation to high volume and/or high-risk paediatric conditions. The PIC Steering Committee provides governance to ensure the process for development and revision of CPGs is robust and responsive.

The role of the CPG Fellow is to closely align with the CPG Development Group and to be directly involved in the development, review and maintenance of CPGs. This includes assisting other authors and being directly involved in preparing, running and documenting CPG Committee meetings. The Fellow will work independently and as part of the group. There is a strong focus on reviewing the literature and existing guidelines before writing and revising CPGs. The approved CPG process must be followed within the agreed timelines.

Key duties of the role

• Coordinate and support CPG Committee and team meetings, including preparation, attendance, documentation and reporting across internal and interstate stakeholders.
• Lead and contribute to the development, review, editing and updating of paediatric Clinical Practice Guidelines aligned with approved governance processes and timelines.
• Provide oversight and guidance to guideline authors, including liaison with subspecialists and stakeholders to ensure evidence-based, best-practice content.
• Support audits, quality improvement activities and reporting functions, including monitoring adherence to CPGs and maintaining associated documentation and registers.
• Contribute to a collaborative, respectful and safe team culture while engaging effectively with multidisciplinary and cross-jurisdictional CPG networks.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent, with General Registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Minimum 4 years’ postgraduate clinical experience as an Intern/Resident/Registrar, including exposure to Advanced Trainee-level responsibilities in a teaching hospital.
• Strong multidisciplinary teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families and healthcare staff.
• Demonstrated clinical problem-solving, decision-making and ability to perform effectively under pressure in high workload environments.
• Broad clinical knowledge relevant to paediatrics (or chosen specialty), with understanding of OHSW principles, public sector ethics and quality improvement practices.
