Pros

KPMG is a Big Four. For audit or tax, it's as good as any of the other three. I get the sense that these other practices run very differently than the advisory practice. For SOX work, KPMG likely has the most experience than any of the other Big Four.

Cons

The last few years, the Advisory practice has been attempting to get into "consulting". The problem is that the risk management practices really don't let you do consulting. So, if you like finding problems for your clients, this is a good place to work. If you like solving those problems, this is not a good place.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
