Pros

Some of the individuals within. If your lucky you will meet a small select group of geniune people.

Cons

1) Toxic environment - its not enough to just say the environment and culture is toxic as context and examples are required. The business operates on a culture of fear. A totalitarian regime. Seniors and Leaders are bigots, misogynistic, unempathetic individuals who treat staff more like livestock than human beings. The only way to succeed or at a minimum recieve some level of respect is to become fully subservient to the regime. The toxic culture is nurtured deliberately by Seniors through derogatory statements directed at your character and intelligence and such is thinly veiled as professional feedback or constructive criticism so as to prevent accusations of bullying. Through this a fear of failure exists. Like a virus is permeates the business slowly extracting all ambition and self worth you hold. The evidence of this fear and toxic culture regularly presents itself with individuals crying following meetings or calls, persons taking stress related leave from duties or turnover of staff which is incredibly high. 2) Zero Support or Professional Progression - If your a seasoned educated professional with years of knowledge and a sought after skillset this business will not aid in progressing your career. While you can add the name to your CV the work itself is mundane and mindless. If you do encounter a situation or an issue related to an assigned project getting help and support to resolve the matter is virtually non-existent. At the point of seeking assistance from a Senior you will recieve in return statements such as "figure it out". This is where the culture of fear comes from because when you are unsuccesful in resolving the issue you will be reprimanded for failing. If your a graduate be prepared to be a glorified secretary. 3) Unethical behaviour - if you do decide to progess with an opportunity within the firm then be prepared to witness unethical behaviours, again all from Seniors and Leaders, the people who wield the power. This type of behaviour will come in many forms such as taking credit for work you have done while using you as a scape goat to cover their mistakes. While the business promotes openness and encourages persons to speak out against this behaviour if you do the persons who wield the power will endeavour to identify who reported and will retaliate. Again this is linked back to the culture of fear advised of above. Just Google KPMG unethical behaviour and read many news articles posted by many global newspapers that report on this behaviour from firms globally. 4) Work Life Balance - non existent.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
