I have been working at Hays full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hays offer the best training in the industry - they literally take people with no business skills or sales experience and train them to be savvy, successful recruiters who earn very high salaries and are constantly incentivised and rewarded.

This is a business where you can feel that management truly care about their people - they invest so much time in training and developing them right from Associate level through to management. You feel very supported at Hays.

    Cons

Expectations are high - you need to deliver and you will feel pressure at times - but you are supported and given everything you need to do so.

    Advice to Management

Nothing - thank you for the opportunities.

    I worked at Hays full-time

    Pros

Some good people, pretty good benefits, fun nights. Training and systems ok even though slow

    Cons

Just the worst place. Terrible culture and management. No ethics or morals.

    Advice to Management

Do an audit of staff happiness, you’ll be shocked

I worked at Hays full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have none. They haven't improved for years

    Cons

They treat candidates like dirt and think they are superior. They have the best corporates as clients but they don't spend time to understand candidates. Aggressive and 'know it all attitudes. Don't return my calls.

    Advice to Management

Spend some time training your staff to understand the market and treat candudates with respect. Your management and staff don't understand that candidates can become your clients in future or refer companies to use your business, but treating them badly attracts all these negative comments.
    Biggest is not best

I worked at Hays full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The office in Sydney CBD and the views. The CEO and how he presents to the global businesses as he is very personable and engaging.

    Cons

The commission structure and the way you get paid every month instead of every quarter sees their consultants bullying candidates and clients to certain start dates so the placement falls in that month and you get commission. I had to bully a candidate into a start date who was sick once and had to start a job sick. Hays will do absolutely anything to get more money out of anyone. The consultants are like robots all using the same stupid “sales speech” they teach you in training. No one actually has knowledge or experience in the field they recruit. They will throw you in at the deep end and make you work on 10 technical jobs from day one. They will nearly make you have a mental break down in the first 6 months to prove yourself in the role to get a visa in Australia and sponsorship. They micro manage and send round reports every day of how much activity you have done. The managers are not leading from the front some of them are not even good consultants just able to manage people by telling them what to do every second without any tact. I have to say that this company feels like a cult and now I have left a massive weight has been lifted in my life. I have worked for many global companies that do have red tape and some polities etc it comes with the territory. But Hays are next level. I would put off anyone ever working here for the sake of wasting their time and also their mental health.

I worked at Hays full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Thrown in at deep end. Get exposed to clients etc early. Some good people work there, makes it bearable.

    Cons

Managers that can't manage. Managers that don't trust people. Poor commission structure. No benefits. High turnover causes clients not to trust you at beginning. Bad practice from a lot of ex consultants causes poor trust too.

Did I say awful commission? Un-flexible working arrangements.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees more. Hire more selectively rather than "bums on seats". Try to foster and nurture relationships rather than focus on transactional recruitment. This will run down to your team beneath you and will help with the whole "clients don't trust recruiters, they just want a fee" mentality.
