At REA Group, we’re changing the way the world experiences property. Our people are the key to our success, they show up with purpose every day. And guess what? We need more passionate and driven people to join our team. Join the neighbourhood, where our purpose is felt in every home.
Recently, our Executive Manager, Architecture, Alison Rosewarne had the opportunity to share REA’s platform journey at PlatformCON, a global forum for Platform Engineers. “I was excited to share our lessons with a global Platform Engineering community because we’ve developed a model that works really well for customer focused digital organisations composed of cross functional teams, and PlatformCon helps to amplify our journey and lessons learned.”, said Alison. Alison shared REA’s history, scalability of platform benefits, the importance of treating your platforms as products as well as lessons learned, including an important “bonus” lesson… You can check out the talk in the link below.
Earlier in May, all of REA’s Mobile Developer Community got together for their first ever, in-person and hybrid-friendly Mobile Dev Day event. The event took place at our Richmond offices in Melbourne and simultaneously connected to our Xi'an-based China office via Zoom. The day was all about connection, growth, meeting the newest members of the community as well as chatting to some of our longest-standing members. There was a running theme of the day, which included asking panel members “What was your first smart phone?” Suffice to say, there were many trips down memory lane. Principal Developer Myles Abbott captured every moment from the day in his blog post below.
CEO Owen Wilson shared detail in a recent town hall about REA’s support for those impacted by recent floods. It led to Associate Developers Michael Oren and Oliver Tonks asking themselves - “what am I doing to help?” Two weeks later, with the help of REA’s volunteer bank, the pair were on a flight to Ballina to help Disaster Relief Australia support the local NSW community of Coraki. It was hands on work with a team of 60+ volunteers clearing damaged buildings and pulling out water damaged parts to reduce the likelihood of dangerous mould. Our partner, Orange Sky Australia was also helping support locals with laundry and shower services. Michael and Olly said by the time their team left a week later, the town looked completely different. The piles of belongings in front of every house had been cleared, mud had been scraped off the roads and people were starting to smile again. The area has since sadly been impacted by floods again and there is much work still to do. Read more about Michael and Olly’s experience in their blog below.
Picture this: you’re on holidays, sailing the Greek islands, and are approached by a recruiter from an organisation (in this case,REA) about a prospective role. You participate in the interview process remotely from overseas and end up landing the role! This is exactly what happened to Katerina Martianova over six years ago. And since then, she has gone from being a Commercial Manager in the Finance team to a Head of Product role in our Consumer team. That’s right – Katerina has had a total career change, and we recently spoke with her to learn all about it. Check out the interview in our blog below.
