From those we protect, to those that make it happen here at TAL, people are at the heart of everything we do. In our People of TAL series, we share the stories of some of our people and provide a glimpse into their role, background, passions and what makes them, them. Meet Hussein El-Khansa - Claims Recovery & Support Specialist “I have always had a passion for helping people. Spending the majority of my career as a hospital physio has given me a broad and well-rounded approach to health and care. I enjoy working with customers, hearing their stories, and understanding what their path to better health or return to work looks like. In my role as a Recovery & Support Specialist at TAL, I work alongside our medical experts to support and empower customers during their health recovery. It is an incredibly rewarding role, particularly when you can make a meaningful, positive difference for customers. My background as a physio meant that I was working directly with patients which has given me great perspective to bring to my team at TAL. For me, that experience and seeing patients firsthand as they recovered from injuries has helped to make me a better Recovery & Support Specialist.”
An important part of achieving our claims excellence ambition, is the training and development we provide to our claims and underwriting team members. Through completion of the industry Certificate IV in Life Insurance, our people are obtaining a nationally recognised qualification to support their role and professional development. Thank you to our education partner DeakinCo. who have helped us deliver this accredited education program for our people.
We were delighted to have the opportunity to host CareerTrackers Winter Kick Off Event at the Sydney TAL office where students engaged in strengths-based workshops and panel discussions. This event is designed to prepare new students who are about to commence their first-ever internship through the CareerTrackers Program and get them ready for their internship. CareerTrackers is a purpose-driven organisation that supports pre-professional Indigenous university students and links them with employers to participate in paid, multi-year internships. TAL’s partnership with CareerTrackers began in 2015 and since then we have facilitated over 20 student placements across the organisation each year to help prepare Indigenous students for joining the workforce.
ABCN Future Thinkers is a program aimed at helping students build skills in creativity and innovation, while developing confidence that will enable them to succeed in the workplace. Through our community partnership with ABCN, we were delighted to have some of our Executive Team members involved as mentors for a creative problem-solving experience recently. Volunteering in the community is something we encourage all our people to be involved in and we are proud to support ABCN and all the work they do to facilitate workplace-based mentoring.
NAIDOC Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their histories, cultures, achievements, and continuing contributions to our country. Across our Sydney and Melbourne offices this week we experienced a range of cultural activities from a Smoking Ceremony to a Traditional Indigenous Dance Performance, as well as panel discussions facilitated by YarnnUp with two Elders, external tours and more. We continue to support the communities in which we serve through our TAL Community Foundation, our Diversity and Inclusion partnerships and our Reconciliation Action Plan, and we thank those involved who helped us celebrate this special week.
Our Chief Medical Officer, Priya has been closely monitoring and helping to shape our response to the global pandemic. This has enabled us to continue to support not only our customers but our people and partners.
