Base Salary HEO 7 $117,133 - $127,610 or HEO 8 from $131,108 to $147,858 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint two WiFi MAC Engineers to join the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)at the University of Sydney. In this role, you will work closely with industry partners to develop and implement WiFi MAC layer firmware and drivers, contributing to cutting-edge advancements in wireless communications.
The Telecommunication research area within the School of ECE has an established international reputation in wireless communications and signal processing, comprising five IEEE Fellows, several research fellows, and more than 50 postgraduate students. The University of Sydney is ranked 13th globally in Telecommunications in the recent Shanghai subject rankings, providing a highly collaborative and innovative research environment.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
design and develop WiFi MAC layer architecture and firmware solutions
evaluate and implement new WiFi features aligned with emerging standards
develop and maintain C or RTL-based programming for MAC layer components
define and optimise partitioning across drivers, firmware, and RTL design
collaborate with internal teams and external industry partners to deliver project outcomes
manage competing deadlines and contribute to multiple concurrent workstreams.
About you
Postgraduate qualification in relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
proven experience in WiFi MAC design and architecture
demonstrated capability in evaluation and implementation of new WiFi features
strong programming skills in C or RTL
experience in driver, firmware, and RTL design partitioning for WiFi systems
strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with a collaborative approach
Preferred experience includes:
firmware development for WiFi internal CPU and SoC network subsystems
familiarity with IEEE 802.11 specifications and WiFi Alliance test plans
experience working within an IC design house environment
knowledge of embedded systems, ARM/MIPS CPU, Linux, scripting, and build tools such as make file.
Appointment will be made at either HEO 7 or HEO 8 classification level depending on the candidate’s profile and experience.
