I have been working at Optus full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

When I first started my search for a new opportunity some 8 year ago, I decided I wanted to work for a brand that I was a consumer of. I choose Optus. For the last 8 years my journey has been up and down but mostly up. We are transforming our business. As consumer demand more from the Telco industry and consumer crazy amounts of data, we need to change and change quickly. The future is ours to create. The people are amazing, the campus is certainly exceptional as a place to work.

    Cons

Working in Macquarie Park can be crazy sometimes, the parking and the traffic are just a nightmare. But there are plans in place to support flexible work practices so its great that the team are so focused on this for the employees.

    Advice to Management

Leaders need to lead, so my advice to the management at Optus is to stop working in the business and start working on the business.

I have been working at Optus full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of exciting projects to work on. Independent thinking is encouraged. The grad program encourages highly talented people through the org. An culture where you can be yourself. Lots of great parties and team events. An innovation culture.

    Cons

Management can be quite disfunctional and change their minds a lot. Its a pretty big company so it can be chellenging to get stuff done.

    Advice to Management

A people hire A people. Work harder to cut your dead wood, and pay your best people handsomely.

I have been working at Optus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great informal, fun culture. It's very easy to approach anyone of any level, and the campus allows for fun down time had as well as easy networking. Great intra-team mentality.

    Cons

There are silos which can make it difficult to work collaboratively between teams and departments, and politics come into decision making.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic in Friday reports. Spruiking the wins without mentioning the tough times doesn't work if our EOY position doesn't match the message given throughout the year.

I have been working at Optus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Optus can be proud of its very dynamic, energetic but friendly working environment. Optus is a company where diversity is truly celebrated, and employees are looked after. From a career development perspective, because Optus is so fast paced, I have the opportunity to work on projects that other companies have not worked on or even thought of.

    Cons

There are still systems and processes that are a bit antiquated which cause pain to employees and customers.

I have been working at Optus full-time

    Pros

Always moving a million miles an hour, really great place if you like constant change and innovation.
Great people and a real sense of collaboration (most of the time)

    Cons

Sometimes working through overly energetic risk mgt and processes can wear you down

    Advice to Management

Remove the barriers to your people getting things done - we could be so more efficient and customer focussed if you let us.
