Pros

great relationships with coworkers and the products themselves are top of the market for assistive devices

Cons

upper management cares more about saving money and "streamlining processes" rather than giving employees the support they need. the HR department got completely overhauled the past 2 years and now none of the HR people care about the employees, only the company. the company brought in outside help the past year and a half, snubbing existing employees who were more qualified for the job, by the way, and all they care about is the business model rather than the fact this is a company that at its core was always about providing a service to customers. Customer complaints have been at an all-time high lately because they also recognize the company is leaning away from helping people and instead towards lining the pockets of the people at the top.

Pros

Long time employee who has seen many changes over the years. Good team relationships with focus on great products and customer service. Territories for travel are shrunk as they produce and grow at a certain level to offer more time to spend with developing customers. Management seems to welcome concerns and questions and the sales staff is valued. Much of the outside sales staff are Audiologists. Great support people on our teams.. trainers and Regional Audiologists.

Cons

Getting more and more upper management from the pharmaceutical realm. Their ways of doing business is not how we do business regarding sales calls.. Some seem to be out of touch with our customer focus and time needed to train a customer on our products..and develop customers to be successful. They want to see numbers only.

Pros

I consider Oticon Hearing Aids to be the best hearing aids manufactured. They have a wonderful product.

Cons

Good work ethic, intelligence, and dedication to giving customers best in class support are not appreciated by upper management. Excellent audiological knowledge is being replaced by sales knowledge. If you are good at sales and better yet, if you are a male, you may be able to tolerate the atmosphere. Employees who have made a difference and worked hard to effect much needed change are not valued while sales and marketing are continually applauded and protected. If you don't care about being shown appreciation, if you are a good at sales, a good schmoozer, you may tolerate this misogynistic atmosphere. Excellent audiologists will not be valued. HR is ineffective, no exit interview given, my opinion is that no one wants to address the toxic environment. Work/life balance abysmal. You will be asked to do more and more even when you have exceeded expectations. My health has vastly improved after leaving. Once the People First branding was removed, it became Money First. Like any other major corporation. Sad really because they have a wonderful product.

Pros

Nice building Some of the people truly care about the hearing impaired, the company's mission and acting out the "People First" motto.

Cons

Very poor HR department--changes policies frequently, lacks consistency, and encourages conflict The company is focusing more on building an executive and director club and having "fun" events for the employees and not focusing on solving the problems and driving sales and efficiencies. Upper management are only focused on their personal gains, middle management does not communicate well, has frequent conflict, plays politics and upper management does not get involved. They just sit back and watch.

Company seeking Identity

Pros

The company has been in existence for over 100 years, so it is a stable part of the marketplace. It seems to be in a good position to continue to grow and be part of the hearing aid industry. Benefits are reasonable and the physical work environment clean and modern.

Cons

The company has recently gone through leadership change and is clearly struggling to decide what kind of company it wants to be. It seems to be trying to be like the big pharma and medical device companies but still trying to maintain a warmer atmosphere that had defined it for decades. It is not doing a very good job at achieving those ends. The company has clearly turned in the direction of micromanagement and constant meetings and policies and paperwork. It seems like a lot of the trust that leadership used to have in the skills and good judgment of professional employees has been replaced by rigid accountability standards that feel like they miss the mark. There are few people in upper management with any experience in this industry and that naivety shows through. What has developed throughout this change is a middle management class that seem to be spending a lot of time managing up instead of acting as leaders. The micromanagement culture that has been instituted from the highest levels of the company has created a middle management class that seems to be far more concerned with protection and advancement of their own careers and far less about true mentorship. There is far more of a feeling of trying to stay off the radar of upper management than truly doing good work for the sake of the company. This used to be a company that people truly felt had a clear mission and employees were happy to be part of that. Now the feeling is more about self-promotion. And that feeling of self-promotion seems to come from the very top of the company.

Pros

Oticon is a fast paced environment which can help your day go by faster. Aside from management the people that work there are kind, warm and welcoming. Working at Oticon is also rewarding as the instruments are helping so many people with hearing issues (kids included).

Cons

Management is very rude and not inclusive. Going into the office is depressing as there is no interaction amongst employees aside from 2 minute coffee breaks. There is no proper training besides the first week where you sit with all the departments and shadow the workers. Launches of new products happen quite often with no real improvement for end users besides the name being changed (which is a scam of its own). They do not offer proper training on system or the products, but expect you to pick up on things quickly. Upper management has NO EXPERIENCE in any other field and therefore have no knowledge on how to adapt newcomers. Raises are low while upper white management are constantly being promoted or given new titles.
