In this role, you'll:
Provide technical leadership and engineering assurance across critical operational and passenger communications systems within a complex rail environment.
Working collaboratively across functional and project teams, you will ensure engineering integrity, safety, reliability and compliance across the full asset lifecycle, while supporting system integration, assurance and operational readiness for Sydney Metro’s world‑class network.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide engineering leadership and subject matter expertise for communications systems including radio, fibre, IP networks, CCTV, passenger information and public address systems
- Deliver engineering advice, design assurance and acceptance activities using a systems engineering approach
- Ensure compliance with relevant TfNSW standards, cyber security requirements, availability targets and safety regulations
- Coordinate technical interfaces with signalling, TMS, station systems and other rail subsystems
- Support system integration, testing, commissioning and operational readiness activities
- Provide expert input to governance forums, technical working groups and stakeholder engagements
- Review designs produced by external design consultants to ensure quality, safety and fitness for purpose
- Contribute to risk management, assurance frameworks and the maintenance of engineering standards and integrity

About you
You are an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in rail communications systems and a passion for delivering safe, reliable and future‑focused transport infrastructure.
You bring strong technical credibility, sound judgement and the ability to communicate complex information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.
You thrive in a dynamic environment and are comfortable balancing autonomy with collaboration to achieve high‑quality outcomes.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or Systems Engineering
- Demonstrated experience in rail communications systems and IP‑based network architectures
- Proven capability in engineering design assurance, system integration and operational readiness
- Strong understanding of engineering standards, safety assurance and regulatory compliance in a rail environment
- Sydney Metro Competency Level L2 (minimum) in Communication and Radio Systems, or the ability to obtain it
- Well‑developed stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary technical teams
- The ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, practical advice for decision‑makers
