Bush Heritage Australia's Seeding the Future team is recruiting to fill a fantastic opportunity to work with our Midwest Team as an Intern.
This is an exceptional opportunity to make a very real contribution to the protection of Australia’s unique wildlife and their habitat.
For over 30 years we’ve supported and protected some of the most fragile ecosystems across the continent and seen the impact of our science-based approach. We keep our eyes on the horizon and focus firmly on long-term, landscape scale impact. As a national, not-for-profit, we want to continue to expand the areas we protect and deepen the impact we have. We work in partnership with Traditional Owners, listening to and learning from the customs and cultures that came before us.
Together we can heal and protect the bush, now and into the future.
Bush Heritage’s 2030 Strategy is to improve biodiversity protection, function and connectivity across landscapes.
This internship will support the Bush Heritage Australia (BHA) Healthy Country Manager and Ecologist and will work closely with The Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation (WGAC). WGAC represents the Wunambal Gaambera people, the native title holders of 2.5 million hectares of graa (land) and wundaagu (saltwater) in the North Kimberley. WGAC leads the management of the Uunguu Indigenous Protected Area, guided by Wanjina Wunggurr law and their Healthy Country Plan to protect cultural and natural values and support sustainable livelihoods on Country.
This internship will contribute to spatial mapping and protected area planning for the Uunguu Indigenous Protected Area in the North Kimberley, in partnership with the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation (WGAC). The intern will support the development of spatial datasets and maps to inform Healthy Country planning and decision making, working across both ecological and cultural contexts.
The internship will involve both office-based GIS analysis and travel opportunities to engage with planning processes that include Aboriginal partners and cultural knowledge holders.
