We are looking for high performing Data Engineers to join the Data Engineering Team within the Cancer Services & Information Division of the Cancer Institute NSW.

There are two permanent full-time positions and one temporary full-time position (until August 2027) on offer to:

• Be part of an organisation that makes a difference in cancer control in NSW
• Be a main contributor to the Data Engineering program of work and ensure that the Institute has the data it requires to deliver its priorities in the NSW Cancer Plan
• Be part of a dynamic team of data engineers and specialists and work closely with analysts, epidemiologists, statisticians and data scientists to develop an efficient, automated flow of data and information fit for research purposes and reporting

About the Opportunity

In this role you will work in a dynamic team which is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the data and pipeline architecture for the Cancer Institute NSW. You will be responsible for bringing together and handling data from a wide range of source databases and systems into a consolidated environment to drive the reporting and analytics functionality of the Institute.

You will be a keen team player that thrives in a collaborative and evolving landscape to support the delivery of high-quality cancer related data and information to diverse stakeholders.

You will be someone who wants to use their cutting-edge skills to help shape the innovation and use of technology in an emerging team wanting to expand their machine learning and artificial intelligence abilities.

Essential to the role will be your ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure datasets meet reporting and research initiatives and stakeholder needs.

Essential Requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in health information management, statistics, data science, informatics or a related discipline, and demonstrated relevant equivalent professional experience and training.
• Strong working knowledge of analysis techniques and programming tools such as R, SQL, and Python with demonstrated experience using these tools in the delivery of data and analytical services including data ingestion, transformation, storage and reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, design, and implement internal process improvements including automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.
• Experience in visualisation languages and tools such as R Shiny, PowerBI, Tableau, or similar programming applications.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and work collaboratively with key business stakeholders, including understanding and refining requirements and effective presentation and translation of results to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Knowledge of health-related data collections and systems, the strengths and weaknesses of these datasets and a good understanding of the NSW and Australian Health Systems will be highly preferred.
